History
Salacgriva formed at The mouth of the Salaca River in the Baltic Sea, and its history is closely linked to fisheriesa port. As early as the 19th century, it was an important regional center for fish processing and trade. The 20th century saw the development of a cannery and coastal shipping. In the Soviet years, Salacgriva was the center of a collective farm of fishermen, the heritage of which can still be seen in the architecture and infrastructure of the city.
