History

Svetciems was first mentioned in the writings in the 17th century as a fishing village. With the development of the port of Svätupes in the 19th century, the village acquired a strategic importance in the maritime trade. In Soviet times, the center of the fishermen's collective farm “May 9” was also located here, which left its mark on local architecture.

Svetciema Manor

Svetciema Manor(German: Schwetcz) was established in the 17th century and was one of the most important manors on the North Vidzeme coast. Historically, it belonged to the von Pistolkors' family, and later to other German-Baltic noblemen. The center of the manor developed around the manor house and farm buildings, some of which have survived to this day. The surroundings of the manor still radiate a historical atmosphere, and it is possible to see the area during a walk.
Although the manor house has not been completely renovated, this place is an interesting cultural and historical stop for all those who like to learn about the history and architectural heritage of Latvian estates.

Interesting facts

The shrine is located North Vidzeme Biosphere Reservein the territory, which is one of the most important protected natural areas in Latvia. Also near Svetciems you can see the remains of old piers, which once served as a port for local trade and fishing.
